After 30 episodes, the continuity in the popular “magical girl” series begins building to its climax with a series of revelations. Pegasus is Helios, the Priest of Elysian, the Kingdom of Dreams; his horn is the magic Golden Crystal that could enable the sinister Queen Nehelenia of the New Moon to plunge the universe into darkness. When Nehelenia discovers that Rini/Chibiusa possesses the long-sought Mirror of Beautiful Dreams where Pegasus is hidden, she captures the mini-Princess. Darien/Mamoru’s body has synchronized with the Earth, so Nehelenia’s real and figurative webs of evil cause him pain. In between revelations, the filmmakers pause for humorous interludes. All the Sailor Scouts mistake Rini/Chibiusa’s fascination with Pegasus for a crush on an older boy, and in one singularly odd sequence, Pallapalla turns Rini/Chibiusa into an adult and Serena/Usagi into a child.
