The Silent Star - What- How - and Why!

Wow! I really loved the movie The Silent Star. The movie is absolutely stunning with top-notch graphics and visuals while Yoko Tani deliver some award-winning performances in this movie.

I also think Oldrich Lukes was great! The visuals and graphics make for some very realistic on screen special-effects but that is the beauty of the movie.When the movie wants to be funny it is funny, the same is true for when the movie needs to deliver its scary aspects.

I think Yoko Tani and Oldrich Lukes worked wonderful in The Silent Star. The great supporting cast includes Yoko Tani, Oldrich Lukes, Ignacy Machowski, Julius Ongewe, Michail N. Postnikow.

You should see it, make no mistake this is a definite blockbuster!

Summary of The Silent Star:

In a utopian future of universal peace and brotherhood–1985 to be specific–a mysterious artifact found in Siberia is discovered to be a message from Venus. While the recording is studied, an international team of scientists is rocketed off to make contact with the mysterious planet. It takes the film some time to get going (worldwide harmony makes for a beautiful future but pallid drama when everyone gets along so nicely), but things begin to cook once they land on the misty wasteland of Venus. Swarms of metal bugs hop from glassy mutant trees and bubbling black mud oozes after our astronaut heroes, but no Venusians can be found amidst the geodesic architecture and buzzing power plants. What they discover instead is a terrifying conspiracy wrapped in an anti-war parable. Based on a novel by Polish science fiction legend Stanislaw Lem (whose work also inspired Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris), this German science fiction adventure is a visual treat, from the sleek, grand, silver spaceship and a funky purple Venus landscape of alien ruins and crystalline bubbles. Decently (if prosaically) dubbed and trimmed down to a brisk 78 minutes, it’s an entertaining triumph of psychedelic art direction and desolate alien weirdness presented in all its brightly colored, widescreen glory. –Sean Axmaker

Summary of The Married Virgin:

The silent screen’s greatest lover in an early performance. “The Married Virgin” is one of the first films featuring Rudolph Valentino, who would soon star in “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” and “The Sheik,” establishing him as a silent era screen icon in 1921. Valentino plays Count Roberto di Fraccini, a fortune hunter having an affair with the wife of a wealthy older businessman while trying to finagle a large sum of money from the family by any means necessary. Summary of Guilty by Association:

Morgan Freeman lends a little gravitas to this gangster story about two drug-dealing partners–D-Mo (Daemon Moore) and Drama (Jeff Edwards)–whose friendship crumbles in the face of too much money and too much stress. Guilty by Association is utterly amateurish; the strangely paced and confusing storytelling is made even more confusing by the arbitrary use of cheap visual effects and bad sound design. Still, despite this–or maybe because of it–the story remains weirdly watchable if you pretend that this a clumsy dramatization in a documentary. Then the poorly constructed surface merely stands in for the real story, which the earnest but stiff acting is meant to evoke but not embody. Not everyone, however, will want to give the movie this much benefit of the doubt. Freeman has a few scattered scenes; his powerful presence momentarily gives the illusion that you’re watching something credible. –Bret Fetzer

Robert Redford is the executive producer (and narrator) of this fine, eye-opening documentary about the violent events that took place in 1975 on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Indian activists ended up in an extended standoff with FBI agents, and the result was several deaths, including two federal men whose killing (according to many people) was never clearly attributed to a specific gunman. Nevertheless, the government laid blame for the tragedy on Leonard Peltier, a Sioux political leader who has long been a focus for supporters believing he took the fall, possibly heroically, for others. Peltier has spent many years in prison, and Apted’s film, which is hardly ambiguous in its commitment toward Peltier’s hoped-for freedom, is persuasive in both its detail and its case against brutal federal policies toward Indians.
