Ghostbusters - Watch Any Movie Any Time You Want
Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins–who knew they could “slime” people with green plasma goo?–but hovering above the plot is Murray’s patented ironic view of all the action. Still a lot of fun, and an obvious model for sci-fi comedies such as Men in Black. –Tom Keogh

If you love watching Pat Morita or Hilary Swank, you are deffinetly going to want to watch The Karate Kid Collection.
A sizable hit with both teen audiences and sports-themed movie enthusiasts, 1984’s The Karate Kid had the right combination of heart and action to spawn three sequels of varying quality between 1986 and 1994; all four features have been packaged together in this three-disc set. Though plot elements varied from film to film, the core story (and the series’ greatest strength) remained the same–the relationship between a wise Japanese martial arts teacher (skillfully underplayed by comedian Pat Morita) and his young American student (Ralph Macchio in the first three films, and future Oscar winner Hilary Swank in the final entry, The Next Karate Kid). The first of the Morita/Macchio matchups remains the best of the four features, with excellent performances from both leads and director John G. Avildsen (who also handled Rocky and the first two Kid sequels) expertly balancing the emotional moments with the pure excitement of the martial arts tournament that serves as its finale.
The subsequent sequels with Macchio seemed pulpier (especially The Karate Kid, Part II, with its rekindled wartime romance subplot), and the inevitable come-from-behind competitions lacking the impact of the original; 1994’s The Next Karate Kid (directed by Christopher Cain) put a slight spin on the formula by replacing Macchio with belligerent teen Swank, but it too seems like a retread of the first film. Still, the messages inherent to each film–finding one’s inner strength, trusting your heart–should ring true to new generations of younger viewers. Fans may find the Collection light on supplemental features–while all four films are presented in anamorphic widescreen format, only the original (which was previously released in pan-and-scan only) offers commentary by Avildsen, Macchio and Morita and several making-of featurettes; the three sequels, packed into two discs, offer no extras. –Paul Gaita

With a core audience of gameboys and hot-rodders aged 25 and under, xXx: State of the Union is the kind of action movie that requires literally no thought to enjoy. With Vin Diesel’s original character just killed in Bora Bora (for details, see the uncensored unrated director’s cut of xXx), Ice Cube steps in to play bad-ass, and the whole franchise takes on a hip-hop edge that’s almost admirably absurd. The asinine plot is anarchy in Washington, D.C., as an insanely hawkish Secretary of State (Willem Dafoe) plots a Capitol coup just as the President (Peter Strauss, playing it straight) is giving his state-of-the-union address. All of this is prefaced by Cube’s recruitment as a former Navy SEAL turned new-xXx, escaping from jail (Dafoe’s character put him there), hooking up with an old flame who runs a chop-shop full of the world’s hottest wheels, and reuniting with his old commander (Samuel L. Jackson) for a bullet-train climax that feels like Mission Impossible Lite. You could argue that Diesel’s the smartest guy in the franchise for cashing out early, but xXx: State of the Union gets the job done in passable fashion, with action veteran Lee Tamahori delivering the goods while he waits for a grown-up script to come along. –Jeff Shannon

I really loved the movie Identity [Blu-ray]. I really enjoyed watching John Cusack in this movie. I also think Ray Liotta was great!
I think John Cusack and Ray Liotta worked wonderful in Identity [Blu-ray]. The great supporting cast includes John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, John Hawkes, Alfred Molina.

Summary of Identity [Blu-ray]:
With an ace up its sleeve, Identity does for schizophrenia what The Silence of the Lambs did for fava beans and a nice chianti. On the proverbial dark and stormy night, this anxiety-laced thriller offers a tasty blend of And Then There Were None and Psycho, with a dash of Sybil for extra spice and psychosis. Things go from bad to worse when 10 unrelated travelers converge at an isolated motel and proceed to die, one by one, with no apparent connection… until they discover the common detail that’s drawn them into this nightmare of relentless trauma. Even as it flunks Abnormal Psychology 101, Michael Cooney’s screenplay offers meaty material for a superior ensemble cast including John Cusack and Rebecca DeMornay (who wins the Janet Leigh prize in a bitchy comeback role). Director James Mangold pivots the action around one character (played by his Heavy star, Pruitt Taylor Vince, in eye-twitching cuckoo mode), and half the fun of Identity comes from deciphering who’s who, what’s what, and who’ll be the next to die. –Jeff Shannon

The Replacements - Internet Movie Rental - What is the Craze About
The Replacements manages to be both completely formulaic and yet immensely enjoyable. When a professional football players’ strike happens, the owner of a fictitious team, the Washington Sentinels, commissions maverick coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman) to pull together a team. McGinty selects a collection of talented oddballs–a Welsh soccer player, a sumo wrestler, a couple of professional bodyguards–with athletic pasts, figuring that if it doesn’t work out as a game, it might as well be a circus. To lead the team, he finds Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves), a once-promising player who had a disastrous championship game. While this documentary about the behind-the-scenes machinations that occurred during the production of Gilligan’s Island will have its strongest appeal for fans of the TV series, even viewers with a passing interest will find some entertainment in this surprisingly deluxe DVD presentation. Based largely on the recollections of executive producer and original cast member Dawn Wells (Mary Ann), with contributions from Bob Denver (Gilligan) and Russell Johnson (the Professor), the documentary explores the many conflicts endured by the show’s cast and production staff before and during the show’s network run. None of the gossip is particularly damning (no fistfights or secret trysts between cast members), so viewers looking for Behind the Music-type dirt may be somewhat disappointed. But for classic TV fans and Gilligan aficionados, Surviving Gilligan’s Island is a pleasant and well-produced diversion. –Paul Gaita
