A Streetcar Named Desire - How to Watch Quality Movies Online
Looking for a benchmark in movie acting? Breakthrough performances don’t come much more electrifying than Marlon Brando’s animalistic turn as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire. Sweaty, brutish, mumbling, yet with the balanced grace of a prizefighter, Brando storms through the role–a role he had originated in the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’s celebrated play. Stanley and his wife, Stella (as in Brando’s oft-mimicked line, “Hey, Stellaaaaaa!”), are the earthy couple in New Orleans’s French Quarter whose lives are upended by the arrival of Stella’s sister, Blanche DuBois (Vivien Leigh). Blanche, a disturbed, lyrical, faded Southern belle, is immediately drawn into a battle of wills with Stanley, beautifully captured in the differing styles of the two actors. This extraordinarily fine adaptation won acting Oscars for Leigh, Kim Hunter (as Stella), and Karl Malden (as Blanche’s clueless suitor), but not for Brando. Although it had already been considerably cleaned up from the daringly adult stage play, director Elia Kazan was forced to trim a few of the franker scenes he had shot. In 1993, Streetcar was rereleased in a “director’s cut” that restored these moments, deepening a film that had already secured its place as an essential American work. –Robert Horton

Sands of Iwo Jima - Movie online!
Summary of Sands of Iwo Jima:
This classic World War II actioner has Wayne as a tough but compassionate Marine Corps sergeant, John M. Stryker. Tough name, too. Stryker’s job is to turn a bunch of raw recruits into a fighting machine. His no-holds-barred approach causes a great amount of friction, not to mention a running subplot concerning his personal life that makes him something of an enigma to his men. The mystery of his past is not fully resolved until the very ending, by which point Stryker is decidedly a war hero. The supporting roles of those who hate Stryker’s guts, and who are inevitably won over, are played handsomely by John Agar and Forrest Tucker. Veteran film director Allan Dwan helmed this one, and used real war footage and three of the surviving soldiers who raised the flag on Mt. Suribachi to reenact that momentous event. An engrossing and entertaining war flick all around, boasting one of the Duke’s finest, most measured and layered performances. The DVD includes a wonderful making-of featurette hosted by Leonard Maltin, interviewing Wayne’s son, John Agar, and some of the military personnel who served as advisors on the film. –Jim Gay

The Last Supper - What Everybody Ought to Know About Online Movie Downloading
Painted in mile-wide strokes of black satirical comedy, The Last Supper turns intolerance into a parlor trick, then repeats it ad nauseam in case we missed the joke. Still, redundancy can be fun when applied to the premeditated murder of right-wing extremists by self-righteous left-wing zealots; director Stacy Title is an equal-opportunity offender, never taking sides. The grisly high jinks commence when a truck-driving, child-molesting, Hitler-loving ex-Marine (Bill Paxton, acing the role) is accidentally killed while dining with a clutch of snobby liberal grad students, played with uniform excellence by Cameron Diaz (showing early promise), Ron Eldard, Courtney B. Vance, Annabeth Gish, and coproducer Jonathan Penner. Having acquired a taste for blood, the wine-poisoning liberals stage “last suppers” with hand-picked targets (Charles Durning, Mark Harmon, Jason Alexander, and ultimately Ron Perlman), eventually attracting a suspicious sheriff (fine work by SNL alumnus Nora Dunn). It’s got all the subtlety of a pile-driver, but The Last Supper craftily defends free speech by exposing its most vicious violations. –Jeff Shannon

Those looking for titillation from this droll observation of the sociological impact of one of the most notorious porn films of all time will probably be disappointed. Broadcast on British television in 2005, Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered (originally known as The Curse of Debbie Does Dallas) is nonetheless a good-natured little documentary along the lines of Inside Deep Throat that takes a fun, matter-of-fact look at the adult film industry in one of its early incarnations (the 1970s). The film attempts to uncover the “mystery” of starlet Bambi Woods who made only a few other appearances in porn before disappearing into obscurity. It also explores the mob angle and some of the dangers associated with organized crime and the FBI’s interest once porn became more lucrative and mainstream. More entertaining is the sense of nostalgia that comes through in the modern-day interviews with those who participated in the making and marketing of Debbie, and how a micro-budget movie that by all rights should have quickly faded away became a huge hit and icon of porn. Smart, gray-haired paunchy guys watching themselves perform with 30 years’ perspective seem bemused, wistful, and maybe a little bit embarrassed about the wacky way they made a few bucks (only one of Debbie’s original actresses agreed to be interviewed). The film takes no moral stance, even though many of the interview subjects speak seriously about the victimization that has always gone hand-in-hand with the adult entertainment business. While not as clever, insightful, or stylish as Inside Deep Throat, Debbie Does Dallas is still an engaging glimpse at a tawdry time and place that produced a classic in the annals of the adult film history. As an interesting extra and counterpoint to the history lesson, the disc includes the bonus feature, Diary of a Porn Virgin, which documents the tale of two women who make dramatic career changes into the modern porn industry. –Ted Fry
